TRANSFORMER MAXIMIZATION PROJECT

This project involves installation of five (5) extension transformers per constituency in the grid areas where HT lines have previously been done. A total of about 1,450 transformers per year will be installed in the 2016/17 FY and 2017/18FY financial year.

Project Justification: - project aims at improving electricity access and connectivity in areas with high populations or those not reached due to the 600m radius limitation.

Project Cost: - Ksh. 7.1 billion in the two financial years.

Benefit to the Community: - REA has been working in consultation with the communities through their area leaders to identify priority areas per constituency for implementation of this project.  The transformer maximization project is expected to open up the rural areas through supply of essential power for economic activities, facilitation of business opportunities and enhanced security. It will also fast-track the connection of households that are 600 metres away from the grid. The project is also in line with the strategy of REA in its endeavor to light up rural Kenya and supporting the overall Government objective of achieving universal access to electricity by 2020.
