CEO Rural Electrification Authority Mr. Peter Mbugua, received a delegation led by Mrs. Fan Ming Zhi, Vice President, Win Win Guangzhou Investment Advisory Centre and Ms. Ada Liang, Marketing Manager, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) the two parties discussed a wide range of issues on the mandate of REA and the socio economic development brought about by investing in rural electrification and the use of renewable energy sources.
REA commissioned the Kiliwehiri Solar Mini-grid located in Banisa Constituency,Mandera County (Kiliwehiri is at the border of Kenya and Ethiopia).
H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday signed the Energy Bill 2017, which establishes the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), among other entities. In Particular, the Energy Bill 2017 transforms the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) into Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), with an expanded mandate to spearhead the promotion and development of renewable energy in Kenya, in addition to implementing electrification projects. The Energy Bill 2017 also consolidates the laws relating to energy and provides for National and County Government functions in relation to Energy.
During the implementation of the 54.6MW Garissa Solar Project, Rural Electrification Authority, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, undertook to construct various public amenities that are intended to enhance the lives of the host community living in the surrounding areas of the project.
